Portobello marked the beginning of Breakaway. Amazon Game Studios originally set out to showcase the capabilities of their new engine, Lumberyard, with a stylized visual direction—and the game’s theme was pirates, one of my personal favorites! However, after a few months, the project pivoted into a more competitive experience, evolving into what became Breakaway.
I had the incredible privilege of concepting and directing a talented art team, bringing this vision to life. This project holds a special place in my heart, as it aligned perfectly with my own tastes in gaming and allowed me to explore a theme I truly love. It remains one of my most cherished memories in game development.
